Anita Patel runs a busy dermatology referral service out of 4 clinics in London and the South East of England and lectures both in the UK and internationally. She is recognized by the Royal College as a specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and has immense experience in the field.
She has over 20 years’ experience in the field, gaining her certificate (Cert. SAD) in 1993 and her Diploma in 2002. As a specialist in her field, she has dedicated the last 15 years exclusively to small animal dermatology.
Anita co-authored a case based text book on small animal dermatology in the “Saunders solutions in veterinary practice” series which has been translated into several different languages Greek, Spanish, Polish and Italian. While consulting on all aspects of veterinary dermatology, Anita's particular interests are feline dermatology and bacterial infections of the skin, on which she has published several papers. She has also written a chapter for Consultations in Feline Medicine and co-authored the chapter on structure and function of skin. She has published papers in refereed and peer reviewed journals and is actively involved in all aspects of dermatology. Anita has taught dermatology at IVC new graduate academy and European school of advanced veterinary studies in China. She has also lectures in UK, India and in Kenya.
Before devoting herself full time to veterinary dermatology, Anita had her own, 2 clinic, busy small animal practice in Surrey where she was a busy general practitioner as well as pursuing her interest in dermatology. Anita's 20 years of general practice give her enormous insight into the practical aspects of treating patients in the home, especially the problems of actually getting clients to carry out long and frequently expensive courses of treatment. When recommending a treatment, therefore, she takes the client's circumstances into account as well as the patient and the condition.
