Orthopaedics/Soft Tissue Surgery

Mark Pertwee is head of our soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery service and is also one of the clinical directors. Mark qualified from Glasgow university in 1995 and worked in a busy first opinion practice in Gravesend for 10 years. He soon developed a keen interest in surgery and in 2003 gained the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery. In 2005, he moved to Grove Lodge to head up the soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery services and has provided in internal and external referral service for local practices. Mark has a busy and varied surgical case load and is happy to take both soft tissue and orthopaedic referrals and has performed many thousands of procedures over the years. Soft tissue including: oncologic surgery and wound reconstruction, arytenoid lateralisation, BOAS surgery, perineal urethrostomy, perineal hernia repair, laparoscopic ovariectectomy, laparoscopic cryptorcidechtomy and liver biopsy. Orthopaedic surgery including TPLO, lateral fabella suture, patella surgery, carpal/tarsal arthrodesis, and fracture repair.


Mark also has a keen interest in radiology and in 2011 gained the RCVS certificate in Diagnostic Imaging. Mark has been involved with the BSAVA for many years and was a committee member and then chair of The BSAVA charity Petsavers. He has also been involved with the BSAVA certificate in small animal surgery since its inception as a mentor and providing online teaching. Since 2014 he has also acted as an examiner for the BSAVA certificate. In his spare time, he is a keen kite-surfer and snowboarder and is busy creating a new campervan. He normally has a cat but is currently looking for a replacement for Boris who passed on in 2016.
